Sc(herz)o infinito

Prize winner at the Winfried Böhler Kulturstiftung-Netzwerk Neue Musik Baden-Württemberg e.V. “ad libitum” composition competition in Germany.

Sc(herz)o infinito is a collection of 70 pedagogical music pieces composed by Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete inspired by the children’s games depicted in Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s painting Children’s Games (1560).

Conceived as an infinite and impossible counterpoint for 265 children that include solos, duos, up to 11 performers. Each number translates a game into sound, movement, voice, or physical action, creating a playful and performative approach to music-making.

What is

Sc(herz)o infinito?

The cycle consists of 70 short standalone performative pieces, ranging from 30 seconds to 8 minutes, each based on a specific game from Brueghel’s painting.

The pieces explore:

  • singing and rhythm

  • play integrated in music

  • movement and simple choreography

  • exploration of percussion and wind instruments

  • initiation to chamber music

  • use of electronic sounds and gadgets

  • improvisation

  • playful rules and collective imagination

Originally conceived for workshops with children, the works are designed to be accessible, adaptable, and open, suitable for young performers, educators and institutions.

For music teachers
