Composed in 1998 and originally submitted to the Guitar Foundation of America Composition Competition as Vals Nº 1, Op. 17, this short waltz was dedicated to guitarist Martín Madrigal. Written in Monterrey, Mexico shortly before Bertrand Chavarría‑Aldrete's move to Europe, it stands as the final work of his first creative period (1995–1999).
